The Tennis Patrons offered both and facilitated our plans and programs thus being a main contributor to our success which was very evident at the time. The Tennis Patrons were also in the forefront of youth competition both local and international which were necessary to develop and elevate playing standards.

Almost every champion that the country has produced over the last two decades or so have at least started playing with the Club. More than 200 youngsters train with Patrons, and they host all but one of the major junior tennis tournament in the country. Their founder Jean Merry has made the single biggest contribution to the game in the country during my involvement, and their head coach Neil Lingo is able to motivate juniors at a level that I have not seen with anyone else.

As a former President of the Tennis Association of Trinidad and Tobago, I can attest to the significant importance that Tennis Patrons Academy has played in the development of tennis in Trinidad and Tobago. Historically, Tennis Patrons started off more than 30 years ago by Jean Merry to promote tennis for young kids. The organization has blossomed into a highly professional entity that hosts both international and domestic tournaments.

Over the many decades, TPA has continued to develop good junior tennis players as well as most of the best junior players in T&T. That by itself is a terrific accomplishment, but what TPA does most of all is help reinforce in all the children some important life-skills…. the value of discipline that comes from focused sporting activity; desire that comes from wanting to get better and better at something day by day; and the benefit of both individual accomplishment and teamwork.
